My first time on Maui, and I’m traveling with my boyfriend and one of my best friends. On the first day, we explored one of the beaches in Kihei, close to the condo we were staying at. But I’m looking for a beach that has a little more pizzazz. You know what I mean. There are over 100 beaches on the island of Maui, all being named an award-winning beach by some magazines or newspapers. So how am I going to make this venture out of the ordinary? Does Hawaii even have beaches that are not so talked about? We like pretty much the same things that everyone visiting Hawaii likes: hanging out on the beach, boogie boarding, body surfing, snorkeling, and so on. You get my drift. But I’m guessing what you really want to hear about is how we end up naked in Hawaii.

Where is the Beach

We ask some locals who lived on the island, and they suggested Big Beach at Makena State Park, but it is very well known. It was named Big Beach because it is the largest undeveloped beach on Maui, and hard for the tourist to say its Hawaiian name. From shore, you can see the islands of Kahoolawe and Molokini, it’s popular among tourists. But the locals tell us to try Little Beach if we really want something fun and sexy to write about. It’s at the north end of Big Beach. You have to climb over some lava rocks to get to it, and you will need an adventurous spirit. I ask why so. It’s a clothing-optional beach, or some might say a naked beach that you can snorkel at.

I was a tad bit leery, and I wondered how I was going to feel stripping down totally nude in front of one of my best friends and my boyfriend. But as you can imagine, my boyfriend was all for it. Hoping for my girlfriend and me to follow suit. I was going to hide the fact that I said yes, and even leave this adventure out of my writing, but my boyfriend said it would be great for your readers.

Now that I have agreed to go, what are we going to say to my girlfriend? He says, “Why don’t you just ask her.” So simple right? Guys! Okay, let’s see what she says. I’m sure she is going to be weirded out by me even mentioning it. But what the hell, I’ll ask. I tell her about the beach, and before I even ask the question, she says, “I want to go there and check it out.”

Finding Our Way in Hawaii

So off we go, Big Beach, here we come. We walk all the way down to the north side, up the lava rocks to a secluded Little Beach. And much to my surprise, lo and behold, Little Beach is more popular than Big Beach. Not what I was expecting.

My boyfriend strips down in 2 seconds flat. My girlfriend keeps her suit on. So I decide to go in the middle and do topless. It just seemed like the right thing for me. And to tell you the truth, it was comfortable. I didn’t feel out of place at all. My boyfriend and I were out in the water talking to an extremely beautiful local woman. We asked her about snorkeling here, and she suggested a little further up on the north end of the beach.

Snorkeling at a Naked Beach

We grabbed our snorkel gear and started snorkeling. It was beautiful. I found it very comparable to some of the scuba diving that we had done in Maui. We saw trumpet fish, rainbow parrotfish, bright yellow fish, and a whole lot more.

I thought I would be a little fun and frisky with my boyfriend underwater, so I swam up next to him, and for the first time, I realized he wasn’t naked. I came up and tapped him on the shoulder, asking him what happened. Why did you put shorts on? It’s a naked beach, and I’m sure the fish won’t mind. LOL, He tells me he was afraid that one of the fish might want to check out his dangling jewels. We laughed and thought that was the funniest thing ever. The image to this day still haunts him of some random fishy nibbling on his ????… I’m sure you get the visual as well.

Another great day on Maui and a place we will definitely go back and visit.

If you like snorkeling, then you’ll want to read about some of my other adventures. So check back shortly.

Aloha, and never stop the cool wind from blowing in your hair.
